Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey just wondering what setups people run on a stock 2.8L radiator this lux also runs dts turbo kit turbo. So what thermo fans do you run what they off and how there mounted i read alot about ef-el fans being used just wondering if anyone has a pic of this setup

Can't help with the Hilux, but after trying all sorts of combinations of after market thermos on both sides of the radiator, Commodore VP thermo and a bigger radiator all with varying results, I took note of several comments from forumites and bought Au Ford thermos for my old Navara.

The secret, I believe is with having not just a thermo fan, but having an integrated fan and shroud arrangement completely or almost completely covering the radiator.

I ended up spending quite a bit of money and a lot of time with trial and error, building brackets to fit these different combinations and in the end the AU thermos fitted in very easily as they are the same width as the Navara Radiator and were very easy to bolt in and with the added advantage that they are quite slim in profile, so easily fit between radiator and engine.

The temp is the coolest it has ever been now even when worked hard in sand etc and I'm convinced I didn't even need to upgrade the radiator.

AU and EL fans are very powerful. They come as a twin set to fit a very wide radiator so you really need to modify to fit.

I run a Davies Craig 16" thermo on my 3.0l V6. It seems to work ok so far in 38 degrees heat with no shroud. I have it mounted directly to the radiator with a universal mounting kit. I have been advised though that a bit of body flex when off road might cause the fan to contact it's own shrowd and burn out the motor. so i have a stainless mounting panel being made, unshrouded again, it is being made in such a way that my sheet metal bloke can fit a shroud later if needed.

thanks for that probably go to the wreackers with a tape measure and see if we can find something close.
Struth i had one mounted like that in a 2wd rakky buggy and it ended up causing it to leak because it rubed through the core where the washers are

Yep, that's why I have a shroud on order.

Been quoted $125 for AU fans and $110 for EL, shouldn't have to pay more than that.

Probably going to check out the dunnydoor fans more that au or el by the looks of it they'd be easyer to fit and still move a good amount of air will post up pics when done

I run a similar ICE 16" thermo on the front of my radiator for my Lexus V8 4Runner, works a treat, but is a bit loud. But they may be becuase its on the front of the radiator and not in the engine bay.
