Hey Trendsetters,
I know this doesn't quite fit in this forum, but with all the fabricaters out there, I might get some help.
If I were to weld up a frame on top of my car trailer to fully enclose it like race car trailers, what material would be the most cost efficient and weight efficient to clad it with?
I've thought of 0.030" to 0.040" aluminium sheet, and also maybe flat white colourbond steel, which may be a bit heavy.
Any ideas?
Cheers.
Chris.

The colourbond is quite thin about 0.9 I think, ally would be another option but you would have to paint etc. You can get fibreglass sheets that don't require a frame just some angle in the corners to fasten them together. Depends on what dollars are available on the look you're chasing.

A mate built a trailer for his drag last year. Had a metal frame, then used 1 piece fibreglass sheeting to enclose it. Looked bloody awesome when finished!

Thanks for the replies, I like the fibreglass sheet ideas, can anyone elaborate on this with suppliers or details on how they are constructed?
Cheers.

With a few phone calls I was advised to use 0.8mm powdercoated aluminium sheets. Sounds good but I still like the frp idea. No one up here in hicksville (NT) knows what I'm talking about so details would be good if u guys know more.
Like:
What precut sizes do they come in?
What approx price is it for what size panel?
How thick is it?
Should it be bonded to a backing, like ply wood?
Where do u buy it?
Cheers guys.
