ok have a bit of a prob,

Was gonna put mickey thompson 16x10 Classic lock rims on the cruiser but they just foul on the tie rod

What can i do, i need a solution by tomorrow morning, a couple of options are:

1: wheel spacers - would only need to be around 7 mm or so, would they put a heap more stress on studs etc etc it?? Dont wanna hear about legal issues please.

2: Is there any way shape or form i can get different bracket thing that connects the tie rod to the swivel (those arm things)

3: how much different are the 15x10?? i really really want the 16's they look shite hot!!!

Any other ideas on making them for or if you have had a similar problem how did you overcome it????

Cheers Troy

I am able to help with the wheel spacer option if you choose to go down that path. We sell 6mm spacers for $15 each or 4 for $50 plus postage and can post them up in the morning to you. Contact me via here or at the web page.

thanx mate but i bought some spacers this arvo, but was too scared to put them on without hearing others oppinions.

AutoBalanceMan, is there anything i need to worry about if i use them?
Brad from tyre worx has ordered the 15x10s and if they fit and dont look all that much different to the 16's ill put them on. i wanna know what my options are to fit the 16's and wanna know of any dangers etc etc

6mm wheel spacers wont really cause you any issues as they are not really that much wider and are commonly used to stop tyre/wheels fouling things.

Is It possible to swap the 2 arms around that join the tie rods to the swivel housing??? so that way the arms angle towards each other not away????

the 16x10 Mickey wheels have the wrong backspace for the 75 ser cruiser or most other leaf sprung live axel land cruiser. The best option is the 15x10 Mickey wheels as they have the corect backspace required for these trucks 3 5/8".
If this is not the way you want to go then I sugest you use the wheel spacers and maybe install longer wheel studs to take the stress off them.
I would strongly recomend to use the 15x10 wheels and try and sell the 16x10 as they would fit an 80 series just fine (with a suspension lift of course)

I think you will find he is trying to fit these to an 80 series. Just going by his sig line.

I think you will find an 89 Sahara is a 60 series.

in any case no it is not possible to swap the arms. If you're running rims that wide you obviously don't care about stress on your wheel studs! go the itty bitty spacers, they are illegal on the road but so are your wheels so if you get pinged you're screwed either way. If you run them for any kind of distance you will get through wheel bearings pretty quick and your scrub radius will be pretty awful so expect some wheel wobbles and poor handling! (with or without the spacers!)

cheers

I thought the bad thing about using spacers is that the rim is only being held on by the studs.

Without a spacer, isn't the load is spread across the studs and also the centre lip on the hub? That little raised ring which fits inside the rim.

I know these are big ones which you bolt on through your existing studs, but see how they have the centre lip...

on most toyotas the wheel wheel is located and fully supported by the wheel nuts and studs. there is a clearance between the hub protrusion and the centre hole of the rim. It helps when lifting and locating a wheel, but it does not support the wheel per se. On the 60 series, it has fully floating axles fromt and rear, so the hub protrusion is very long in any case; the wheel will still have plenty of hub sticking through it with a short spacer.

the 'bad' of running a short spacer is the 'free' length of stud running through the spacer, but if it's only 5 - 10mm, it's strong enough as long as you do them up tight enough. if they are loose, they can break.
