What is the best size tube to use when making a tube bar?
Am building a new winch / tube bar and would like to know what you guys use?

32nb medium wall tube which is 42.4 mm outer diameter..

32NB can be had in light wall, medium wall and heavy wall.
All sizes are 42.4 OD.
I think heavy wall is close to 5mm (have to look it up)
For a tube bar you would just want standard medium wall (around 3mm I think)

3mm will dent and bend wen plowed into rocks i built my front bar from seamless pipe which was 45mmoutside diamiter and 4mm wall thickness. work out ur design and how much tube you will need and go to your local steel suplyer and get tuber which is around 45- 50 mm od and 4 - 5mm wall. if its for a suzuki 3mm will probably do but 4-5mm is not much more expensive anyway.

anyhting will dent when you plow it into rocks..i have bent arms on my buggy that are 9mm thick walled tube with 4mm tube sleeved on the outside.thats 13mm and it was also gusseted with angle..the trick is to decrease the span between joins on the tube therefore giving the tube less chance to bend..this isnt doable on links but on front bars etc it is quite simple

medium wall tube is 3.2mm and heavy wall tube is 4mm

you are better off using 3.2mm wall and putting more gussets/bracing in it than using 4mm wall with less gussets/bracing..3.2mm wall is also a fair bit cheaper

Thanks for the replies. I get steel etc.. for mates rates, but just wanted to know the best size to use.

Will go with 45mm diameter with 3mm wall thickness.

I believe it is 48.3 OD in medium wall thickness 3.2mm.

what sizes do you use?
ive tried prety hard to bend mine and nothing but a scratch so far
