I thought the bonnet was to fit the V8 which I heard was going into it but not to Australia...maybe I am wrong.
If onlly they would bring the auto out here.

I though the bonnet was to fit the 2.4 diesel from the transit van that is going into it. Nothing about a V8. Sadly. I'd have the TDv8 from the new rangie - apart from it needing a whole new drivetrain!

Does somebody out there already have one?
How does it stack up against the japs like Patrol or Toyo 80?
I'm thinking about buying one to replace my '90 Ptrol GQ.

Dave, what auto are you using ? dos the new fender still use an lt230 or ford/ borgwarner transfer ?

yes it still has the LT230, in 1.211 ratio,
we have put a ZF 4HP22EH in,
it's not been easy at all, we have been working on it for about 8 months already

How about adaptors to fit the new 6 speed gearbox to the Td5? Will Ashcrofttrans make one of those?

yes this has certainly crossed our minds especially if the auto conversion take off as we will have a steady supply of the 6 speed boxes,
the auto is our priority at the moment but once this is done we will be looking at kits to put the 6 speed onto the TD5 and the TDi,

I would be interested to know what you think of the strength of the 6-speed when you eventually pull it down.
PS - I saw a couple driving around when I was in Europe a few weeks ago.

Afternoon All
I've got a friend who's just ordered one of the new Fenders, he wants to know who makes all the accessories etc for them. sliders, bars checkplates etc. He's based in Brisbane, currently drives a P38 and a Hummer.
Cheers

That's correct. The engine is taller thanks to overhead cams.

My mate picked his black 07 fender up last week, had a disco loan car for couple of days when they had to fit the baby seats, which he said was good as it confirmed they made the right choice. It looks pretty much the same apart from the bonnet and of course the interior

andrew PM sent.
As for everyone else. I have had afew fenders in the workshop the last couple of weeks, and have had a good chance to have alook over them.
The reason for the bonnet buldge isn't cause the motor is taller, it is becuse the motor is mounted higher. When they adaptoed the 230 to the back of the 6 speed the front output shaft housing (centre diff lock selector etc) was going to fowl the 6-speed casing, so the rotated the 230 around (downwards) till it cleared. The LT230 is clocked around so much that the tailshafts are alot closer to flat than in previous defenders.
the sump is way clear of the front diff centre, but isn't designed for the defender as it has no shaping to clear the pumpkin, another reason the motor got mounted so much higher. Infact the top of the block is almost at the hight of the wings (+ or - 50mm)
the gearing is very nice, infact it would be awsume with a set of 5.1 Maxi in the TC. The defender also has a no stall function in low range, in 1st gear low range with will drive through the brakes. If you were to put it up against a wall it would smoke all tyres instead of stalling.

Anti-stall in action. You can hear the brakes groaning.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ57E6ZayLo
Of course the ramps are set up so TC doesn't have to work too hard - and there are other 4x4s that could do this, but that doesn't devalue the spectacle of the Defender making it look easy!
Edit: better one.....
