Odd Gearbox Noise?

Ok guys, well the new clutch is in and seems to be ok, but we have a new problem..

At first it seemed (after replacing the clutch/bearing/everything else) that it was stuck in 3rd gear. But after doing a search and reading other peoples similar problems we fixed that all well, goes into gear fine now.

Now.. there seems to be an odd noise coming from the gearbox. It sounds kind of like theres not enough oil, but we've filled/checked it and it is indeed full. The noise comes both when you are in neutral and you release the clutch pedal, and also if you drive in a gear (not when its just in gear (i.e in gear, clutch pedal depressed), only when moving/clutch out). It sounds like theres a cog spinning in what sounds like not enough oil?

We're quite confused, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

is it a very loud noise? mine used to make the same noise when in neutral or the clutch was pushed in.
when i rebuilt the gearbox i replaced teh clutch throwout bearing as well (60 bucks from CBC) mine is super quiet now.

no its not loud, you have to be inside the car to hear it, its pretty distinct though. It only happens when the clutch is released, not when its depressed.

We replaced the throw-out bearing with the clutch, so i don't think its that...

Just thinking about it, would it have been possible to have dropped something in the gearbox while trying to fix the first problem? I've heard other people having file shavings in the box making a noise in the end..

Could this be the problem? or not?

i have similar noise after doing clutch and replacing the g'box.
it only makes the noise when you dont have the clutch under pedal pressure.

Does it take a little bit to go away when you press in pedal? Mine does.
I thought it was the input bearing but could be wrong

Naa, as soon as it reaches what would be the catching point when releasing the clutch (in neutral) it starts to make the noise and doesn't stop until you press the clutch back past the same point.. It doesn't stay after the clutch has been depressed fully again..

could be similar problem.

Mine is deffinately gearbox related as it goes away with clutch pushed in and when gearbox internals stop spinning. Prob a bearing or something. gonna give it some time to wear in and will treat gearbox with some additive. Box has been sitting colecting dust and crap under the house for the past 12 months so it could have some grit in one of the bearings.

good luck

by the sound of it guys it's the input shaft bearing is a bit shagged but also
check all the bolts on the gearbox, As the bolts on my coily come loose all
the time and the box drops slightly putting added pressure on the input shaft and spigot bearing..
