Frustrating Diffs.

I am doing up a WT maruti ute, and have a problem with the front diff housing. I think it is bent, as the bottom of the passenger side tyre is a lot further away from the ute than the top! It is on a good old lean.

I am told that 1.3l sierra, 1l sierra and 1l maruti diffs all have different splines and won't interchange, and i need a maruti 1l diff housing, which is reasonably rare, so the wreckers are trying to screw me over.

Does anyone know where i can get a 1l WT maruti front diff housing, and if not, what else i can do? Sorry if this is a stupid question, i am still new to this game.

Id be taking a tape measure and check yours against a 1.3l WT. Check the diameter of the axle tube, count the bolts on the diff centre.
The internals may very, but the housing MAY be interchangeable.
But before you do that, are you sure you don't just have worn king pins ?

like this?

As above i would check a WT out as i believe the centres will fit in there.

I THINK they are wt width but 1lt size if that makes sense. Ive heard them called banana diffs because they bend easy. Depends what your overall plan for the zook is and how much wreckers want for a diff but you could pick up a set of 1.3 wt diffs and im sure they would bolt in (check 1st though) and you would get larger/stronger everything.

Is the tube bent, or is it somethign lese, like a colapsed kingpin bearing or similar??

No Layto,
I'm an archer, and the tube reminds me of my bow at full draw.
She's bent alright.

Now i need to find a WT 1.3l front diff housing.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
I did do a HUGE double-check today just to make sure...

I wish that was all the problem was.

I am told variously that a 1.3 WT diff housing will not fit and that i will need another Maruti one, which equals lots of searching or big bucks.

The thing is, same diff= same problem.

which leads me to a stupid question:

If the diff outer (tube) is bowed but not buckled, can it be bent back and then re-inforced by welding some bars front and back of it, rather than tossing it to get another?

Is that possible? Would it be viable?
any thoughts? am i an idiot for asking?

Yep u can.

A few places have done the rebend off diffs then laminate and reinforce them.

A mate rebent his after dune surfing with a 10 tonne bottle jack and some chain. tru redneck style but it worked

U could try
www.suzukishop.com.au or www.suziwest.com for parts. i think suzishop had a maruti when last there.

Now suzukishop tells me that they absolutely are the same diff housing.
So i can try to fix it, or get a 1.3 front diff.

I wish everbody would make up their mind. It's not easy being ignorant!

did the earlier one say what was different?

best thing is to post pics to compare or maybe ask suzuki to chech their parts breakdown for any differences.

if u cant get any joy from dealer, PM me as i work 2 doors down from one.

You can straighten them out - old man got the front done out of the patrol after taking out a 10ft tall roo. On that note, the camber in that photo reminds me of my MK ute - the swivell-hub bearings were completely destroyed, and thats what it looked like.
