Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all
just a question, I have replaced my efi radiator with one from a carbi model now the question is. why is on the EFI there a temprature probe on the tank of the radiator?, and the carbi one does not have one. is it needed because the temp gauge in the car is still working as there is another probe under the theromstat.

It probably has sumthin to do with the EFI....warm-up sensor ....or sensor to lean off mixture after a certain temp maybe.
