76 landy with holden 202 any good

I`m looking for a tow rig, I was wondering if this conversion was a success. I`ll be using it for towing aswell as a my daily driver
What should I look for ,ect. rear diff swap, brake booster,gear box
its a 76 model

G'day,
I'm assuming your talking about a 1976 Series III land Rover with a holden 202 in it. If so I have to ask one question, Why do you want a Series III as a tow/daily driver ?? Why not a Rangie, it will tow sooo much better and bee sooo much more comfy and cost about the same in fuel. Not to mention it will do 110kph unlike a Series III with 202 and it won't kill the gearbox like a 202 does. And a rangie will be about the same price or maybe cheaper to buy than a Series III.
I love Series Landies as i use to have a Series IIa as my daily driver...but uin the end it was too much $$ to use everyday...I do plan to have another one on club plates.
I'm now buying a Rangie for my tow/daily driver

I've just installed a 186 in my ser.III shorty and dont think the holden motors use any more fuel than the old 4cyl. petrol but every time I touch the go pedal the gears disapear very quickly i.e you have to be a race car driver to change gears fast enough to keep up with the engine power! Are you sure this is what you want in a tow vehicle? I drive mine every day to work 60km round trip but wouldnt like to be towing as well!

Just skip 1st all together on road. Use the single barrel stromberg for offroad and fit VB/VC Commodore electronic ignition if you want decent economy

Iwould skip first but I dont have second (keeps jumping out) do u know if the selector from a ser.IIa would fit in a ser.III box? as I have a ex. military landy up the back yard that cant select third! (thats where I got the 186 from) I have a single barrel stromberg fitted with Motorvator extractors . Also can I fit an Auto trans. and if so what type eg. holden,ford etc. and do you know how much is involved in changing over ? Thanks in advance for any info. !!

if you want to go auto you can fit any motor/box combo thats lying around.
the hardest part is mating the series transfer case to the gearbox
as far as making adaptors goes it isn't a hard job.
the series transfer case is very strong and allows the front diff to be dissconnected in high range, which is handy if you keep the universal joint front.
another option would be rr v8 lt95 with a stage one front end (cv joints)
and 3.5 gears in the rear sals.
some mob used to make an adaptor for the ford autos (c4+c6)
but these are rare as.
i used to run 202 s111 ex army 2 barrel stromy axtractors elec ignition with q78 swampers (36")
went just about anywhere, lots of power but sucked the juice like an alco on pension day!!!

Actually the easiest way if your going to change bearboxes is either use a MQ Patrol remote transfer case or just an MQ 5speed & transfer.
Third is always the weak point with a Holden conversion, you should get the syncro rings background to stop it popping out.
