OK, am pulling out the second Revolution starter that has failed in 6 months and sending it back for a warranty return. In the mean time I need to buy a new starter to get me ready for an up coming trip.

What would people recommend:

Bosch $347
OEX $392
Lucas $412

bosch. The best starters on a Rover motor are the Bosch items that come fitted to Series II discos and P38s - they are smaller than the giant lucas items, yet much much more powerful - I fitted a secondhand one to my 4.6 when the original crapped out, and it sounds like a jet turbine spooling up, it spins that fast. Expensive to buy new (your price sounds VERY cheap?), but well worth it.

Thanks, will confirm tomorrow if that's the correct price. I was just talking to the person who sold me the two Revolution (aka Unipoint) starters and that is the price he gave me to suit the County 110 V8.

It was suggested this evening to look for a Denso gear reduction starter. Not sure if these are available for Rovers and the Denso site doesn't have a parts catalog. Does anyone have any experience with the Denso's on a L/R?

Graham Cooper in Sydney has a US made Autolite for about $250.00......remember these are an old Buick motor......most US stuff is pretty good and I know that he won't /doesn't sell rubbish. ;)
