Spare tyre Hoist

Hey,

I've got a std '98 Challenger with a problem on the spare wheel hoist: seems like the chain-wheel might have a tooth missing or something similar. It'll hoist for a bit, then slip back down.

Anyway, what do you reckon for a simple fix? Replace the whole unit, or just the chain-wheel? (I haven't got into it yet, to confirm exactly...) Would it have to be Challie donor, or would a paj unit fit? (hoists from inside the boot.)

And then, i guess, what would be a good cost for a rear bar with spare mount? For those who have one, does it become a bugger to swing it away to open the rear door?

Cheers for your help.

Well, Pajeros have the spare on the rear door (where it belongs :P ) so you could have trouble making a Paj unit fit.

Now is your opportunity to sell your other half on a rear bar/carrier, so you'll have room for a monster long range tank, for some of those longer outback treks. :D

Good luck,

Scott

Ok, how about Triton hoists? They might be easier to come by?

Sometimes if there is a kink in the chain it can be a pain to wind up n down...

or the chain has been deformed..
