Best motor for landrover series 2a conversion

Some of you may have seen my members thread with my 2a in it (coils, hilux diffs etc), and I have been thinking about doing a motor conversion down the track (to get rid of the LR gearbox).
The reason I am posting it in general 4x4 is because if I post it in the rover section, I wont get the wider audiece viewing it and offering suggestions.
I have thought about different engines and t-case combinations, and they need to be reasonably short (90" wheel base). I have heard that a lexus v8+auto on a bundera (prado) will bolt together and be about 1700mm in length.
If you have a suggestion, if you can, add the type of gearbox used, and the legth of the combo.
I currently have a Holden 202 efi (about 150hp), adapted to the LR box. I have absolutely no complaints about the engine, but I am worried about the gearbox strength (from what I have heard, they are good to about 120hp). I have also heard the transferboxes are very strong.
Another option for me could be to adapt a trimatic to the LR transfer box.
So, add your suggestions here. It needs to be very cost efective, so dont go on about 1200hp big block chevs
.
Also, has anyone converted a trimatic to a LR transferbox? it is my prefferred option at the moment.
