Hey guys, i've got a 5lt Ford Fairlane 1993 NC. It has spark, fuel to fuel system and power to the injectors but will not start.
It was running fine when i turned it off after getting home from work but when i tried to start it to go back to work the next morning it just wouldn't start.
Can somebody tell me where the injector pulse/pick up comes from?
The only other thing i can think of is the computer?
Cheers Carl.

Do you have any fault codes.Usually if the check light stays on costant,it means ECM failure,Cheers Paul.

I know you will be able to do this Carl. give the computer a thump, my wifes pulsar does the same. It loses power to the fuel pump.

If it kicks over but wont fire, try unplugging fuel pump, and then plug back in. Girlfriends EB had that problem, after replacing all fuses and relay's this worked.

Lebanese roadside assist
Step 1. Spray some aerostart/CRC or something similar down the throttle body and see is it fires, this will eliminate fuel or not
If you leave your key on for half an hour then start it, it will by pass smartlock, this need to be accurately timed and will only bybass on the first cranking, this was on the 6's though, when i did my first 6 conversion i retained smartlock, but with the 5l's i removed it so not sure, although i'd assume its the same as the smartlock is controlled by the BCM not the ECM
Best bet is to complete step 1 and report back

Thanks guys.
I didn't mention that i had already sprayed aero start down the intake

.
It did fire and was trying to go. This is what made me look at injectors. I will try taking the fuel line off and check the fuel pump tomorrow.

I had this problem when I had an au. For some reason ants are attracted to the relays big time. I had to clean out ants on about 4 occasions. What a way to die!!! Pull the cover off the fuel pump relay and make sure the contacts are clean, then hold the relay shut while cranking to see if that is the dirty little culprit.

when the smartlock module fucks up the car does not crank at all. will turn on and light up like it will but wont crank, wont even click the starter solenoid.
fuel pumps and relays on the newer cars shit themselves a lot. always make sure there is a reasonable amount of fuel in the tank or they suck some shit up and its over.
if u do a lot of work on your own late model cars at home the plug in probe lights to check injector signal are priceless.

There was a rodents nest under the plenum where it curves over itself

So i pulled it off and a coulpe of the breather hoses and vac lines were shagged.
I have replaced all of them today and cleaned all plugs.
There is fuel comming through and the tank is nearly full.
Hopefully tomorrow it will start.
Bru there were a shit load of ants in near the computer. They were going through the firewall to god knows where.

Found a broken fuesable link.
SO..............in my infinate wisdom

i bridged it with a piece of wire AND hey presto we are on fire

.
The smart lock module had a meltdown and looks like the starter circuit is at fault.
Now for plan "B"
I am going to part out the Fairlane and put the 5Lt into my Rangie. Then go buy a new Cruiser.

That'll fix it
