i know its not a 4wd
but my pulsar has developed a MASIVE intake noise,
any thing past half throttle..
it is EXTREMLY loud, and looses heeps of power,
but under that drives as normal!!!!
still starts and runs fine!
ANY ideas?
i have taken all intake of to throttle boddy, it is bloody loud and thats where it is comming from.
it isnt using any more fuel. and has about normal power below half throttle..
it is only when under load!!!

Sounds like you have a vaccum/boost leak somewhere. Check all pipes, hoses and gaskets.

I agree if it is turbo charged (doesnt say in your post). If it is then check what JR said, also if you have an adjustable blow off valve check that it hasnt unwound itself making it open under pressure (instead of under vacuum).

it is a standard one.. 1800 single cam NA
nope carnt be vacume as it actualy comes out of the throttle boddy, and idles very nice....
and timing would fuck up and have no power..
it only sceems to be after half throttle..
i would say fuel if it was just dieing.. but its not.. it is just making HUGE noise.. and haveing no power!

Check your air cleaner/intake tract for blockage.

Layto....

OOOOOkay :? Timing would have no power, fuel will have no power, as layto said air????? or a lack thereof either will have no power?????

I'll just leave you to it shall :?

i
does the noise go away of you put the intake plumbing back on?

is it a 'hiss' noise or a 'bwaaaaaa' noise?

nope... i know about intake nocise.. this is extremly exesive..
no diff it is on or off!
slightly quieter if it is on ovbioulsly since muffles noise....
its as if the valves are holding open......
its near deffening under the bonnet

So have you lost power?? What about valve timing, has the belt/chain skipped?

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.

An exhaust restriction will give you all the symptoms you have given. Crimped exhausted? Loose baffles in muffler/resonator.

It will increase induction noise just like a jacobs exhaust brake does on a truck. It will lack power at higher throttle openings because it simply can't shift the air out the exhaust.
Unbolt the flange on the manifold and take it for a quick wrap to see if the power increases back to normal.
Cheers, Dan

It hasn't run rich at all at some time Phil, as a rich mixture will burn out the cat, blocking the honeycomb setcion up.

Yep a cat will do it. It may even be cat broken up and blocking resonator or the cat itself.
