Bucket seat install

Trying to install some of those cheap autotechnica race seats in the sierra at the moment but am having trouble working out how to safely mount them. I know theres been a few with bucket seats over the time on here so if you could give me a run down or pics on how they were mounted that would be great! Or if you run exactly the same seats even better!

The problem is the width that the rails need to be at to line up with the holes in the floor is very close to the holes I need to put in to hold the rails to the seats. The only way I can see around this is using Rhs or C channel to allow two separate bolts to be put nearly on top of each other-1 to the seat base and 1 to the rails.

Any suggestions?

John.

I will try dig up some photos of mine for you.

Mine is a 84 model and with the rails because they are not attached too each other I was able to unbolt them from the old seat for the drivers side and bolt them to the new bucket seat and basically just use the original seat mounting holes on the body. the passenger side I used 6mm plate to offset the seat closer to the center of the car to clear the door. The plate was winder than the orginal rails the seat sat on so I drill the holes to mount the plate too the old rails and drilled new holes to the right of the plate to bolt the seat up. So yes you will most likely have too use plate of some sort.

Thanks MudPig, I got the same seats. After a big day in the heat in my garage yesterday I got them installed. I must say a big thanks to Pinball too coz I found a link to his install on his webpage which helped heaps!

For the drivers side I had to redrill the mounting holes about 1cm over. It was nearly a direct fit though. Ran into a few problems as the rear right seat mount on the drivers side had a big crack which broke when drilling the hole so had to weld it up and plate it.

Passenger side I have drilled new holes in the floorpan to suit...very similar to pinballs setup and have just got to plate it. Just waiting to get in touch with a blue plater regarding strengthing of new mounts. What dimensions was the plate you put under the floor to get it passed pinball?

Thanks John.

I bought a pair of seats for mine (89 WT SWB) and had to make new mounts. I used 50 x 6 flat bar. I mounted both seats about 30 mm further back and 10-15 mm higher than stock. ( I'm 6'4") Drivers side was easier than passengers.

I was lucky enough to get a set of seats that did not require any mods at all and bolted up to the origional rails..

Cheers
Simon...

all i had to do with mine was drill new holes in the origional tracks and bolted the seats straight on.
