Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Looks like my standard battery has given up the ghost. So I'm trying to decide the best option.
It has to power an electric winch. So two small batteries or one big one. I like the idea of two parallel wired batteries with one each side, keeps it all balanced like. But one might work better.
Forget the cost factor.

go the double and make sure they are the same size. i have fitted two 520cca sealed ones into the zook

just one less work unless you want to run a aux battery

i went for 2 batteries as i got bored one day and had it lying about. I quite often dont drive the zook for weeks and it always has plenty of charge to start.

I have 2, a big ass 7"x13" 780cca patrol one on the pasenger side, the little bitty 7 year old supercrap jobbie on the drivers side in std location. Also have a redarc solinoid duel battery controller in there.

one big one, i have killed two standard exide batteries in 3 years.

I now have a deep cycle 75ah snugly on the driver side and it has been great

how much do you use your winch if not often one battery if you use it all the time go for two but as big as posable then opt for alternator up grade either way

I put my second battery on the chassis X member under the floor behind the passengers seat. More work than in engine bay but a lower centre of gravity. 3" body lift helps.

suz_rolly, lately it's been getting a bit of use. Thanks for the link. Ive got a 1ltr so I'll need to see if its the same mounts. I've herd Lazer alts fit and are 75amp I think.

Santos, how have you got yours wired up ? and do you run a winch ?

Side note: found out today that my starting problem is the starter O'well good as time as any for an up grade.

+ and - nothing else, running standard alternator so i didn't need to bother upgrading the wires running to the charging system. I went deep cycle as it can be mounted any angle, won't leak and i intend to get round to a motor upgrade sporting a70 amp alternator.

I don't run a winch but i regularly forget to switch my headlights off when it's raining, 5 hours drain and no problem starting. i know a 100cca portable jump starter kicks over my engine on bare terminals so a 800cca near flat is still getting me home

if you fit in a week of regular driving between winches, you should charge up the battery on the stock alternator, see how you go before you go off upgrading

GEL cells and AGM are great.
However you really need to do mods to get them to charge properly AND get a decent lifespan out of them.
Ring up battery world in Phillip to get the full info on this.
I spent over an hour with the guy, and he really knows his stuff.
Aparently you need mods to the charging regulator so you don't overcook the battery.

Well the polls finished. Would have liked a few more votes.
I think I'll be talking to a few people, the guys at Narellen, battery world and maybe Hume off road.
I think I'm leaning to duel batteries for the neat fit. But a big gel battery mounted under the floor of the tray somewhere would be cool. More work but cool. Thanks for the input everyone, let you know how I go.
