this is my drama.
i have a solid axle 100 series petrol full time 4wd.
last weekend while on the beach i engaged the central diff lock it started making horrible crunching sounds when the front wheels were at or almost at full lock.
no noises when driving in a straight line, my first guess was the rear lsd or front cv's.
i changed my diff oils and it made no difference.

if it was the cv's i thought they would make the noise all the time as it is a full time 4wd.

it pretty hard to tell where the noise is coming from, i can't tell if it's front or rear but it sounds horrible, the car has done minimal off road until i got it 8 months ago. i have probably done between 50-100km with the CDL engaged.

it's off to the mechanic later in the week but any ideas in the meantime would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jeremy

yes probably the CV's, in a full timer they get a groove worn in them in the straight ahead position, and they only really load up when you lock the centre diff.
