hey all,
i recently bought a 91 softtop with 2" lifted springs (brand unknown) with 235x75x15 cooper stt.
it had the original rims on the tyres, they didn't rub at all anywhere.
on the weekend i put 15x8 sunraysia rims (offset unknow) on it and now the tyres rub on the front chassis where the bumper mounts only when the tyre is compressed in the guard and turning.

havn't checked the rears to see if they rub, which they shouldn't anyway.

i am looking at 2" lifted shackles and a 2" body lift. maybe a RUF at a latter stage.

but by rights if the tyres weren't rubbing before they shouldn't be rubbing now. ANY IDEAS. cheers.

The tyre walls would be able to flex out, and the tread is proabably out to full width profile now. 5.5" is a bit narrow for 235's!

if the new rims are offset more then your old ones then they will travel further forward into the gaurd when you turn the wheel. if its only touching on the smooth metal behind the headlight then I wouldn't worry so long as your tyres arnt getting ripped up.

The change in offset and rim width has changed the arc in which the tyre swings as teh steering turns and the suspension cycles. Cut the bumper bar bracket extensions.

235's need 6's to be right i think. may be stretching it a bit with 15x8s with 235's. even 31.10.5s want 7-8's

I usually try to keep the rim 2-3 inches or so narrower that the tyre. I have 10.5 tyres on 15x8, and 11.5 on 8's. The 10's are okay, but right on the limit

yeah i was looking at putting 32x11.5 on the rims, but in the mean time these will have to do.

so cutting the bottom mount off on the front bumper/chassis should be ok ?? i want to keep the bumper on the front

Just trim it to the tube and it might be ok. Should still give you a bolt hole to mount the bumper.
