Vitara Growling at speed

Gday all, I've got a 1992 LWB Vitara whichyet again has developed a problem.
At around 70km/h a loud Growl and a shudder appears. It does it in Neutral and with the clutch in and in gear with foot down and foot off the accelerator. The noise is there the whole time until i get to about 60km/h.
It has came after a 4 day thrashing in the sand at Wedge.
I have a suspision that it could be front wheel bearings but was after other possibilities.
Thanks, Ben

Try swerving left to right (on open clear road, be careful dont roll
) and see if it gets louder/softer. As you swerve, it loads the bearings. As teh bearings get loaded due to the weight transfer, it will get louder if its faulty. Try this and report back, same bat time, same bat channel (too many scotch & coke lol)

diff whine but not sure if that would dissappear or not.

I have noticed a whine but only whith the hubs locked.
This is a real rumble like a gone bearing somewhere.

I'd suspect front bearings as well, my left hand front has started making some ugly noises (must be to be heard over the half worn muddies) especially when loading that side of the car up when turning right (and no, it's not a CV joint).

Hey,
As you all know, I have front diff problems (and associated diff whine) on my '06 GV ...
Even though the whining is quite loud, there is no rumbling ... and there's no noise when in neutral (so no load on the diff) ...
Hope my diff symptoms help in narrowing down what the issue is ... from experience ... I can say that this doesn't sound like the dif.
Catch ya ...

putting it in neutral will stop the diff whining. most diffs that whine, only do it under load

Well, I did the swurving test tonight and the noise stops when I turn hard to the Left, It seems to get louder to the right. Does this mean my left wheel bearing is gone?
If so where should I get a bearing from and what should I ask for?
Thanks, Ben
