Best engine choice for a sierra
Best engine choice for a sierra
What do you think the best engine swap for a sierra would be? This would be offroad only, so even a frontwheel drive engine turned north-south would be good (and lightweight).
Preferably the engine needs to be cheap and lightweight.
What would a commo v6 be like? too heavy over the front wheels?
What is the weight of a 1.3 ?
Cheers

i agree. What ever it is it has to be an alloy block to keep weight down. I have seen one a long time ago with an EXCELL 1.5 engine in it. Plenty of options are out there.
1999 SQ625 Manual Grand Vitara. Lifted, Twin Locked, 31' Extremes, dual Batteries, Winch.
Lots of custom gear as I cant afford the proper stuff.

Yeah the 4a series motors are cast iron, but there still isnt much of them. If you set them back so they sit near the firewall, the weight bias would probably be better than the commadore v6 conversion that every Newb thinks is the be all and end all of zook evolution

Cause all the hardcore hilux drivers do it so must the zook drivers.lay80n wrote:Yeah the 4a series motors are cast iron, but there still isnt much of them. those people out there nocking the 4age motor in a zuke havnt had one !!
i run a 20V 4age and there is northing better , i've had the GTi the 18RG, turbo'd 13B, the only other conversion i would thing about is maybe the CA18DET. other than that the 4age is the best option, yes i modifty the firewall and move the t case back 3 inchs and mount it close tot he firewall. it is a big conversion tho.

the 4agze is a good motor.... for a corolla. yea its supercharged but its got a cast iron block which, when put in a zook, ruins its nimble characteristics, same deal with the commodore v6.

i've got one
not much fun to fit to a sierra, you need to be not afraid of wiring. lots of issues with the tacho

I'm still running stock 1.3
but the motors I'm looking at is the 1.6 16 value vit motor since its been done heaps there would be heaps of info doing it .. plus its leight
others motors I'm looking at is a 2 litre mopar motor only problem is its east west motor
or a 1.6TD golf motor
then theres this V4 I've heard about and a QUAD turbo 1.8 motor dunno what its out of though think there custom made

i found it really easy to fit, only needed to worry about 4 wires, which were easy to find and i found no advantage to ripping the loom right back, and i didnt bother with the tacho as the drover dash didnt come with one.mugginsmoo wrote:early jimny has a cast iron block, muli-point injection.jonamaphone1 wrote:g13bb

i would have to say it would have to be one of the easiest engine conversions. No moving of engine mounts, bolts straight up to gbox, no need for different dizzy, ample power, smooth motor. efi etc etc

i dont know if they were cast iron, but i know they are multi point and have heaps of wiring issues
Just found this:
http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2131/article.html
Its got all of the posible zook transplantable motors in there, with specs & their original car models.
The Vitara block/GTi Swift head conversion sounds interesting.......but i think i might just throw a set of pistons & rings in the old 1.3 for the moment.

If anyone can tell me how to put up an excell spredsheet on here and I will show you all the research ive been doing on motors.
KW, Torque, Price, motor weight, box weight, and anything else I could think off.
Id be happy for anyone to tell me how wrong or right it maybe!
As far as I can tell the ca18det is the best on price, weight, KW/NM in stock form (reliablity!) and im told the autos are very strong too!
coxy321 I have a mate who has a 1.6 block and gti head with turbo set up. It gos awesome!!!!!!!!
