80's rear hubs on a 60's with disc brakes....anyone done it?

I am contemplating this conversion on my cruiser. I have seen a few conversions using the 60 series hubs discs and callipers, this one is a very tidy set up:
http://www.employees.org/~dirttrak/rear ... ersion.htm
I was intending on using 80 series hubs to widen the track (I am going to put IFS lux hubs on the front so I can run 80 series rims) and was wondering if anyone has looked at doing rear discs with the 80's hubs.
If the 80's hub and disc ends up in the same location as a 60 series disc, I an inclined to do it that way, use 60 series callipers on the rear, V6lux callipers on the front, 80 series master cylinder and run a t/case handbrake set up.
Is it correct that the handbrake has to be mechanical, or is it just a separate system from the main brakes? ie: a hydraulic set up independent of the main braking system).

A hand prake (park brake, emergency brake) must fail on application if it is going to fail.
A mechanical brake like a cable actuated brake will generally fail on application, a hydraulic leak could fail some time after application.
The reason for this is, if you go to put your hand brake on, and it fails, you wont get out of the car / take your foot off the main brake. If you put your hydro park brake on, and it was leaking, it could fail after you got out and stood behind it.
There are some new cars getting around with an electric park brake, but they use an electric motor to drive a screw system which means again, it will fail on application, not some time later.
I dont think you will get a park brake which uses any hydraulic component passed, unless you can show that if the hydro leaks it will not disengage, so some sort of ratchet system maybe?

Was contemplating about the leak aspect of a hydraulic set up last night, and reckon you are right that it wont pass. I think I will look at going to the drum park brake mounted on the rear of the t/case, just makes it a lot easier to set up.
If anyone knows can they answer this question:
I believe the rear output shaft for the park brake in a split t/case is different (longer I think) than the split case with no park brake set up. But, is the rear output shaft in the 34mm idler t/case the same as the rear output shaft in the 38mm idler shaft t/case?
basically, is it possible to use the longer early model output shaft (from a split t/case late 45 early 47 series) in the later model large idler split t/case?
(not sure if I have the idler sizes correct, but I know there are two sizes, the larger on turbo version 60 and 70 series, continued on to be the standard size on HZJ models I think)

i thaught it just bolts to the TC flange, and then the tailshaft bolts to the flange on the drum brake.

rear drive shaft is longer on the park brake transfer case.
the bearing support housing on the park brake transfer case is different too.
did some running around yesterday and have found that the bits are interchangeable between 34mm and 38mm idler split cases.
