--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did a deep water crossing straight down into fast current over bonnet depth(lifted and on 35'S). Nearly made it except I lost some power like when a petrol gets its electrics wet. Recovered and motor checked. Found half a cup of water in air intake before filter and soaked filter. Suspect very small injest of water. Oil good. Half a days drivng later engine check lite illuminates at frast ntermttently and then full on. Gauges all reading normal, no water in oil, no oil in coolant, no ol used. Any ideas.

Al, you silly boy
First you try to bash it to death on the rocks, then drown it, whats next?
Any idea where the water got in?

Huh, GQ's don't have an engine check light. Which light is it and what does it look like?
Cheers, Jeff.

From memory injected petrols have an engine check light where the glow plug light is on the deisel, on the deisels you can get this fault after deep water crossings its the water proof plug on the back of the alternator full of water, if the petrols the same give it a flush out with wd40 or similar n blow out with compresses air, if its a deisel n the light you could be looking at is the fuel filter water warning light if you havent checked it it could have water in it
good luck

I used to get this all the time.
Its water on and in the ALT. All the warning lights get there power direct from the alt. So when its wet or has a loose conecttion the lights come on.
I dont advise to ignore them. As its still worth checking, that theres no water in the intake.

Water came in through the resonator box between the snorkel and air intake, about to be replaced wth flex pipe. The lite is in the same row as the glow plug lite next to the diff lock lite. I am assuming it is the engine check lite. In bed last nite I had the same thought about the water in the fuel filter, will check today and also the alternator. Motor is running fine though. Hey Kiwi you must also be on ORE over here in NZ to know I was rock hopping last week or is that on here too. Sorry Kiwi, just worked out who you are. They egged me on, I had to do it for Nissan pride. If I didn't loose power I would have made it, even Rik reckons the same.

prob thru breather lines If had this problem before, a CAV filter with glass bowl makes it easy to see n is a finer filter with higher flow rate
