Inter HS 2.8L TGV Engine swap into a Disco

Post by DirtyDiesel »

G'day All,
I am new in here and I wish to pick your brains. I have a 1997 V8 Auto Disco which keeps me poor! I am deadset keen on a T/D Engine swap, and I like the Inter HS 2.8L TGV conversions offered by M&D Engineering. 5350 quid = $13,000 approx, and a tad bit scary. Is the 2.8 engine in the IVECO Turbo Daily vans the same donk? I was thinking buying about getting my mate in the UK to buy an old dunger van an ripping the engine out of it, and send it home to me.

Any suggestions would greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the iveco but I am fairly sure the Santana version of the defender has them.

They are only mainly used in South American Ford Rangers.

The Santana uses an IVECO engine, but this is a completely different beast to the International 2.8 - which is an improved 300Tdi

I thought I said no to your question... Anyway, no, the Iveco engines in the UK are completely different.

Oh well, you learn something new every day. What box do the bolt to?

The Santana still uses an LT85 (also known as the Santana box) as it was developed by/for santana. But I'm sure they have a special bellhousing to bolt to the IVECO, not the other way around.

They are made in Brazil i believe and not used in anything else that i,m aware of, you can source them here for $11000, check on AULRO site and contact/ search for Jase as he imports them. You will need either a tdi ZF or a tdi R380 to fit the HS2.8 into your disco.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

Yes, Jase imports them and his email address is jstables@holmwoodhighgate.com.au

Another option to consider is the 2.8 litre Isuzu 4JB1T, easier to get 2nd hand here, good engine. Conversion kits are available from UK, where they are a popular conversion.
