Engine Problem

My Sierra, standard G13ba, has developed an engine rattle. From what I've read it could be the cracked/broken piston skirt issue but I'm not sure.

A. What else can cause a rattle

B. What the likely costs to repair this myself or get done by a shop.

How is the easiest way to determine if it is a broken skirt, I think I'll have to pull the sump off (not keen on doing this, replacing main seals etc etc).

Or do I just buy a replacement engine.

Yours in deepening debt

Greg.

If you're not too comfortable taking the sump off for a look i'd suggest taking the car to a mechanic that you trust and ask them to diagnose.

Don't tell then that you think its a cracked skirt or they'll just tell you that your engine is stuffed so they can charge fr a new one.
