Cut and Cage, or V8 ?

Hi Guys,
I have been recently starting to plan a Ls1 conversion for my Mav (Gq), but a good friend of mine who has also recently done a V8 conversion and then a ute cut and cage, has recommended that if he was to do it again, he would get the cut done first.
The benefits being:
You can push harder because you dont have to worry about the wagon panels.
Its safer because you generally get a cage installed during the cut.
On the other hand, would i get further with just pure grunt ?...and that awesome sound
Any opinions / advice would be appreciated.

V8, That way when you damage the wagon pannels you can justify the cut and cage to the Missus
I would have been in the same pool as you but ended up finding a Turbo diesal cheap enough.

I'd cut it and cage it first.
A V8 will only break things if pushed hard anyway. A V8 is good on road and good getting you through a bog hole but thats about it.
If you do rock crawling a V8 wont help but a cage can save your life. The less panels the better also.
Your driving a patrol anyway not a sports car.

cage and cut it...
The truck will have different handling when you chop it hence you should be able to push it futher and improve your driving once you thing you driving as hard as you can the opt for more power, but then you will have to upgrade many other things like your front diff, steering box and many other parts as you'll just brake stuff.
Plus the cage is going to save your life so a good 6 point cage is well worth the money....

Cut and cage, apart from safety, panel protection and lightness it has that custom offroad sex appeal a v8 doesn't
. I've been waiting for over 2 years to chop mine, it's very frustrating offroad with a fat wagon ass that slides around.
