Gday fellas

My main rig is a turbo diesel 80 however..

The Bundy has developed quite a loud consistent rumbling sound when driving, irrespective of speed/gear and or acceleration and deceleration.
It also has an occasional louder noise, like a loose mudflap hitting the tyre (Its not but thats what it sounds like) This noise happens only occasionally but the rumbling noise is consistent.

My thoughts are a knackered diff/axle shaft  as the uni joints seem fine...

Any thoughts..??

Thanks..
Dave

Yeah thats what I thought but a mechanic I spoke too wants to open up the diff...

It sounds the same as when I destroyed a wheel bearing on my old trusty bj42..

Hmmm...

Could be wheel bearing ,could be pinion bearings. Get the wheels off the ground and turn ,push, pull and shake wheels and pinion flange. And you should get some idea whats going on.
See if you can lift the pinion flange up and down ,if you can and there is oil around the diff' snout your diff' bearing's probably need replacing.
If this is the case DO NOT just tighten the pinion nut because this WILL destroy your diff' they run a 'crush sleeve' if you tighten the nut it WILL put to much pressure on the worn bearings and they WILL destroy them selves.
