Outer Limits 4x4 Board

i am going to be buying an x-link for my patrol shortly, i was going to get it fitted when i did the gearing in the diffs, but i don't think i am going to have the cash to do it before i need to fit the x-link...... will it cause a great deal of grief if i weld it to the diff without stripping it? i guess it will cause some scale on the inside of the diff..... i'll have to work out how the hell i am going to clean the inside of it

I dont see any prob at all if you are really woried just change the oil in the diff after you have finished. All the work to all the cars ive ever had has been with centres in.

Drain your diff oil first or it will harded the steel where you weld and crack.

Weld it with as stick welder with soft rods.

Mig will weld will break also as the weld is to strong and will crack diff around where you weld as it will not allow any flexing in the weld.

This info was told to me by boiler makers that I know when I was welding up my diff housing

what about gasless mig?

I welde up some mounts on my old 4runner with a stick welder and satincratft rods, never had any problems with it. in the 5 years I abused it.

I also drained the oil before doing the work as you may have a large fire.

all our xlinks have been welded with the mig plenty of temp and good peno. there are plenty of places to get good weld in and there is more than enough bracing to keep the xlink inplace.
mig welding is low hydrgen and if done right is as good as any other process.

weld it with the oil in and change it when finished.
