Gearbox Swap

Post by jaypaaji »

Hi All,
May have been asked before, (if so, where can I find it??!!) :?

But, Wondering how hard and what's involved in swapping an Auto Box out of a NK 3.5 and putting in a manual??
I Hate Autos, but Know where I May be able to get a 97NK for a reasonable price. Only catch, Auto Box.

Anyone been crazy enough to do this? Any Probs? Anything to be aware of?

Also, Does anyone know if an AirFlow snorkel from a Gen 1 will fit a Gen 2??

Any all help appreciated.

Many thanx in advance,

So.........

I gather from the silence that no-one has done 'Box swap, or doesn't want to go there??

I need a new Paj, but most of the good one's I've seen are Auto's, and I personally just couldn't handle an Auto for any length of time.
Not that they're no good, Just personal preference.

I Also gather no-one knows. or isn't willing to comment on whether or not the Gen1 Snorkel will fit Gen2 body?
The only bit I'm concerned about is the angle of the A-Pillar verses the Guard, I can fab the rest. I just haven't had a chance to check the angles yet.

Cheers Again.

Hi,

Obvious things first, you will have to buy a flywheel , and clutch kit. Cross member and bell housings are the same I'm sure.

The fun starts when you have to install the pedal box and hydraulic clutch system. Don't know if there is a cut out for the clutch master cylinder, if not you have to make sure it's mounted straight on or else the clutch won't work properly.

Also different centre console and hole in the trans tunnel, as the auto is shifted by cable.

ECU geometry will most likely be different (fuel injection and stuff).

Good luck if you decide to tackle it. There are manuals out there, which will only effect your wallet and not your patients. :) :)
Will work for beer!!
