slider bar metal

hey guys was jsut goin to make some sliders up for my patrol and a gaurd for the back was just wondering what thickness metal to use was thinkin about 3-5 mm but yeah i dont want it to bend or anything any sujestions plz

3-4 mm is ample. anything more is just a waste of money and excess weight.

i used 3mm. Have pivoted the entire car on em and they haven't budged :D

oo almost forgot :) umm also wondering what plate metal to conect slider to the chassis would this be the same or how many mm would you guys use

i got 3mm box up to a 10mm :twisted: plate that sits up against the chassis on either side, with bolts runnin through it ontop/underneath the chassis.

ah ok so ill get nice and thick plate to put up to the chassis oo should be a bit of fun makeing em :) thanx

Good idea to brace it between the Box and the plate too. Just welding it together and thats it looks sooo weak IMO. But I'm no engineer

a little hijack here but with the U shape that goes around the chassis basically its been said that you use 10mm thick rhs is this true and what do most of you guys do about fuel lines etc runnin on the inside of the chassis rails i assume they are moved abit to slide the mount up but what about them rubbing on it

this is a build me and scott done for our sliders

step materials:
2 of 75 x 50 x 3
50mm round

the brackets are made of 50 x 10 flat bar (chassis rails) and 50 x 50 x 3 square

I used 50x50x6mm RHS and 10mm flat bar.... and braced the crapper out of it :D

Have a look under, i was lucky and had a few mm between the lines and the chassis already, so just gently forced the plate inbetween.
