im new to land rovers (usually had cruisers). I just won a bid for an ex army 79 series 3 land rover with a holden 186 and was curious about Road worthies with this conversion in victoria and if extra paperwork/engineers certificate is needed?? It's a really common conversion right

IMO paint the 186 green, stamp an unused landy number on the block - the vic road muppets wouldn't know any different.

What number is on the rego? I assume it hasn't been done officially.

don't know the rego number cause the blokes been driving it on the wrong plates.

the bloke I'm buying it off has done a dodgy rego which is setting alarms off in my head. If it can't be registered im not gonna pay for it. gonna ring a mate who does roadworthies and see what he thinks about giving me a certificate.

rang my mate (he's been "generous" on roadworthies before) said i will need a engineers certificate, and I honestly can't afford one

so no land rover for me

There are few popular conversions such as lift kits for subarus that have been certified by registration autorities and as such do not require engineers certificates. As standard holden conversions have been done since the early 70s they may be on the list - u need to check with your registration authorities.

Its crazy with the difference with rego rules from state to state, in SA its almost a straight forward conversion which the local copper checks.
