Ive done a lot of Pricing and as we know 2.8 and even 3.0 are getting cheaper all the time.

The questions are! Do they really stuff up around 120,000ks plus like the rumour go's? Or are they going 300,000 easy like the old GQ 4.2?

And if so or if not, could then throw a 4.2td or even a Chev V8 Deisel without changing the whole drive train? Gearbox, Transcase, Diffs etc.

2.8 has car gearbox and not the same at the 3.0TD and 4.2's

you wont get 300,000km from a 3.0

on patrol list, someone got 255,000 and when stripped down it is knackered, bores are too worn and requires a new block type worn. oil changes at 5000kms

Drivelines are pretty good its just the motor.

2.8 are more reliable than the 3L well the early models anywa.

you can do a motor swap its not to bad, however with any modfication like that expect it to cost alot more than you think espacially if someone else does the work.

If your planning on doing a motor swap straightaway get a 3L make sure it has the small rear diff as you can still use the gearbox however will need a different bell housing pending what motor you choose.

same gearbox for all 3.0's

early manual 3.0's has the h260 rear. gearbox did change when they put the h233 rear diff in later.

So sounds like do count on much more than 150K then look at engine swaps.

Id like to (as many would) go to a Chev Deisel so it would be an easy 15k I spose. You would have to do the box and diffs I dare say.

But if I could find a 2.8 for under 15k with low 100s on it????
Prob pipe dreams!!!!!!!!!
