Crown wheel query

Post by bigzuk »

Hey guys.

My rear diff centre cw and pinon has decided to give up the ghost and slop out everywhere.

my question is...well there are afew.

can i use a cw from one diff and a pinon from another? will the mesh right and not give me 1/2 a wheel turn of slop?

and if i cant will a chipped tooth whine like a woman and cause more damage?

centre will be locked when removed either way.

which of the two ways would be best? or can someone suggest another alternative. i need this going again by monday evening for work on tuesday.

yeah i have a spare front centre with cw with some chips which is my preference for using as its all good apart from them.

and a spare rear centre with good cw but buggered pinion bearing. unsure on condition of pinon itself.

plus the diff in the car that has buggered cw/pinion

As Bazooked said, you should use a matched pair. As the Pinion and crownwheel spin they match wear to each other. Swapping a different crownwheel will cause noise and more issues later.
