Jumping out of low range?

Hey fellas,
My 60 has a bad habit of popping out of low range, usually at the most inconvenient (and potentially dangerous) times. Is this a common problem? It has 280k on the clock now so things might be getting a bit worn.
Cheers,
Bill.

Checked oil lately? Could shit in the oil cause this? Maybe detents?

LR lever hitting side of hole in transmission hump. Cause.... body lift reducing normal clearance....broken gbox/engine mount causing more movement than normal................ the fix... bend the lever to get more clearance..... replace broken mount/s.....

The oil is fine and the vehicle doesn't have a body lift.

agree with red60, mine was going that, and the linkage that holds the lever in 4wd high and low had mooved....allowing the low lever to pop forward and out of 4wlow

I have had the same problem with my 80 series, It started a few years back when I went to put it into high four doing about thirty k's and it went straight into low, without thinking I let the clutch out and it nearly threw us out the windscreen, since then I have had a reco transfer case put in and it still does it under load, but after reading this thread, I think that the lever may have bent on the particular day in question

not all too sure but i think i remember someone mentioning something similar to this problem and relating it back to a cracked/damaged engine mount.

mine was doing this a few months ago, was driving me insane!!
I was told to check the engine mounts, sure enough 2 were stuffed, replaced them, havent had a problem since.
easy to do aswell...
