This is my little side project im building for my son.was supposed to be a small version of my GQ wagon but thats dead now so this will take a different look now.next to make is some beadlocked wheels, panhards front and rear, get thomas marsh springs to make some custom coils.pump out the guards a bit more as ive never been happy with how narrow they are.i want to get it sitting on the ground by itself so i can start making tailshafts and a rear diff axle set up as the front drive shaft will be for looks until i work out a cv type set up.oh yeah ive made the rooster pit just big enough to get my guts into as well.have custom bars front and rear with one of those electric boat trailer winches in the front .have a spare air compressor laying around too which might go in.

oh yeah i was pissed when i mocked up the suspension so the rear diff is up side down explaining why the centre is on the wrong side.

get a set of coil over from a jag rear they run 2 on each side, jag wrecker on ipswich road would probably give you a set for a carton he is doing a clean out as he might have to move to a smaller shop where he'll only do repairs not spares

Thats looking pretty cool mate

My cousin had a home made go-cart with 9hp honda motor with centrifigul clutch in it when we young teens. This little cart was pretty light so it got moving surprisingly quick. We flogged it off every jump, bank, mound of dirt we could find. My uncle also had a little 4x4 Kubota farm tractor that we drove all the time too, it got pushed past its limits regularly, had some good stacks and plenty of roll overs in both these. We copped some minor injuries from banging against a frame that wasnt really designed for the caning we gave it. we used to put MX helmets on for some of the "stunts" we did. a decent seat and good roll bar and seat belt would have been good to have. Pretty lucky not to get hurt with some of the silly shit we did  got the tractor bogged in a ditch once and I was on it while my cousin snatched it out with his mums landcruiser :? launched the little tractor and nearly put me into orbit   my back was farked for weeks after that

Have you thought about putting in a bucket seat, harness, padding to roll bar, protection to edges of fiberglass body etc. Maybe reinforce steering wheel (looks like its cut from timber?? if so could be prone to breaking with impact)

Your young bloke will probably give this a hiding and push it past its limits at some point, specially once testosterone kicks in in a couple of years.

Any idea what it will weigh when it s done? How long is the wheel base? Have you checked out its stability? looks like it might tip backwards/forwards easy on slopes!
Id be thinking about keeping him safe in it for when he tips it, or rolls it.

Big thumbs up for the effort so far. Awesome work  I bet your young bloke is hanging to get in it  :onfire: :onfire:

i was pretty much the same.had go karts that worked just as well on the main street as well as front lawn, mid sized tractor that topped out at 30klm/h and a few diff brands of ride on mowers the best being the cox.any one thats used the 80s style cox would know u can stand them on the back wheels real well.mate actually got footage of it tipping on him.neighbour sometimes drove his 1100 4cyl motor bike powered go kart down to drink with dad while i had a chop.scared the sh!t out of me.

the seat will prob get properly made foam / vinyl etc.steering wheel is just rough shape still now and will get glassed up later.was going to trim fibreglass hole with pinch weld and was looking at doing a safety belt v over shoulders and clipping between legs. havnt thought about foam to much until i see how close heads come.this thing is going to be walking pace and no more so balance wise im not to concerned but right from the start a mate said just make some cut off switches that i can dial in to cut the engine when it gets to much lean for/back and side to side.

watching your little kid attacking climbs in that and flopping it would have to be one of the funniest sights ever  (providing it was all safe/harmless of course!)

Make sure you get it all on Vid!
