I just bought a wagon and was ringing around getting insurance quotes. AAMI was very competative on price so i started asking what it covered. It would have been insured for $20100 as this is what they said was market.

I asked if they would replace or payout on a writeoff and the answer was they would payout!!!! I told the bloke if they could get one for that price i would order 10 of them and hung up :D

insurance companies suck, you need to get agreed value to get any more.
I had a prang on tuesday and have been fighting insurance company since as they took 1 week just to tell me the excess, and also lost or as they say misplaced my driving history....also told me i had a criminal record although i don't. Then when i went to panel shop they tell me i need to pay excess before emergency repairs are done......when they have plenty of work on they treat you like crud. One big legalised theft ring imo. :bad-words: :bad-words:

MickyD I know exactly what you are saying. We just bought a GU 4.2 ST and went through the same problems with insurance. Was going to go with AAMI again because the old car was with them and always seemed good. We had been watching the market for a few months and new a good deal when we spotted it. So when they said what it would be insured for in a payout we said exactly the same thing to them as you did.

Ended up going with Western QBE cost us $459 and it is insured for $29,000 which was agreed value. Told them that I had been done for dangerous driving and lost my licence for 12months (doing 500 metre mono on a motorbike) also had a neg driving fine, but that only put the excess up a bit if I made a claim, not the missus making a claim. Didn't affect the premium at all.

We are both still in our 20's so I thought this was a pretty good deal. Worth a look I reckon. Good Luck!

Call DGA 4wd insurance Mick. That's who I had it insured through & when I paid my insurance 9 months ago, its market value was 28k.

They also insure ALL your accessories (no mods like zoorst, locker, etc) & a couple of G's for camp gear.

Let me know how it all goes ;).

Surely it couldn't have dropped 10k in 9 months :?.
