Outer Limits 4x4 Board

got my slotted discs delivered today and want to put them on tomorrow after work,
had a quick look and looks like i have to remove the hub?
the rear, all i had to do was remove the wheel and calliper and the disc just came off.
anyone done it before? is it easy or will it take some time?

To do the front you will need to

1. Undo caliper and hang out of the way
2. Remove the locking hub
3. Remove the 2 phillips head screws from the lock plate
4. Remove lock plate and undo wheel bearing nut (There may be a ring with a shoulder you need to remove before you can take the lock plate out)
5. Pull hub assembly off the spindle *Warning - it is fairly heavy*
6. Knock/bash out all the wheel studs from the front (I used a block of wood and a 3lb mallet)
7. Bash/pry disc off hub assembly.

Assembly is the reverse of the above.

Did it on Saturday arvo.

You need to remove hub as disk is bolted to the back. Took about 3 hours but would have been able to knock it over in about half the time if I was talking less shit.

Helps if you have all the right tools. If you've done a bearing re-pack before this is a peice o' piss. A rattle gun helps with both ease and speed ...

looks like il be staying back at work for an extra hour or two then.
use all the power tools at work

You do not need to remove the wheel studs, they are totally seperate of the disk mounting bolts on a GU.

You do not need to remove the wheel studs, they are totally seperate of the disk mounting bolts on a GU.

That is handy, will make the just heaps easier then.

once you undo the bolts with a rattle gun, you may have to belt the old disk off.... i had to use a 6lb hammer on mine to get them to come off. Probably wouldn't hurt to get the right torque setting for the bolts as well..... i used a rattle gun to tighten mine up, but i have no idea whether it was the right torque. i am going to re-torque mine shortly...... last thing you need is for a disk to come loose

Thats if u can find the tools and they work

or if i could get that lock plate out

there is that ring with shoulder holding it in but i cant see any way of removing it?
is there a trick to it? or am i just blind?

thin screwdrivers, anything thin and pointy.. just grab it and pull it out... removes quite easily

tried that, but the ring in front of it looks like its in there quite tight

If it's the ring i'm thinking of then a set of circlip pliers get them off easy. The clip i'm thinking of has ends like this / \ and you just stick the circlip pliers in between them and they pop straight off.

nah there was nothing like that at all, it was solid.
i cleaned out all the grease looking for something like it but it wasnt there

I just use a screwdriver and lever the shouldered ring out. You usually have to work your way around it, prying it out bit by bit.

i was thinking that, but wont it damage it? or is it solid enough to hold its shape?

It is plenty solid enough, as you will see when you get it out.
