Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day all,

I am thinking now of buying a Prado. A good all round car for what I need.
Just a couple of quieries though....
Which are the better motors for efficiency & power? 3L TD or the 4L V6 Petrol? I have a family and will be doing the occasional long runs, frequent off road missions looking for fishing spots etc. with the view to towing a smallish boat in the near future. I have heard the 4L gets around 13L/100km. What does the 3L TD do? Could I get buy with the 3LTD?
Also I have heard that the size of the Prado interior etc. is the same now as it was in the 2003 GXL model. Is this true? Or is the newer models bigger inside, in particular the back compartment.
Any info. help etc. you can provide to help me decide would be greatly appreciated.

OK I test drove a 3litre turbo and intercooled (2001 model) ,didnt seem to go too bad on the straights ,on a hill it seemed a little like my Hilux (2.8D) slowish up hills but with a little more speed. My feelings was that by the time I put my trailer on the back it would of slowed to of been probally slightly quicker than a hilux up a hill (mooney mooney,Hawkesberry etc). When I asked a few mates who have V6 models (vairous years) they told me to stay away from them as they all said they suck the fuel quiet well.

Also from someone who has "only test driven" but also looked at these for my self the 100 seriers is yes bigger,but much more compfy inside especially when you want to load her up for trips etc. The 100 seriers just in the drivers seat its like sitting on a 2 person lounge where as the Prado is like a single seater.

They are both good vehicles but I think if you can get a 100 seriers go for it,plus they can tow more weight

Yeah cheers for that. I keep changing my mind. I would like the power and efficiency but also the room. Unfortunately though the only beast that fits that bill is the 4.2TD Landcruiser but I simply cannot afford to spend that much. So I guess I am in between and a little confused. The Prado has a little more grunt than the std 100 series I am told and would go better. However the 100 series is obviously bigger inside for the family. I am not a speed freak of any type especially with the kids in the car but at the same time I do not want to be struggling to get or go anywhere where I want to.

A friend of mine has had 2 120 series prado's, both the 3L diesel. Dont now the exact fuel usasge but the range is good - especially with 180L of fuel on board. You'd be nuts to get a petrol up here Personally I think the ride on them is to harsh. I've been on a couple of long trips with him and I always leave the car feeling sore in the upper legs.
