80 series 3" lift - wandering!

I have just fitted a 3" lift kit to the 80 series using h/d springs as we will be loading up the truck. :D

The kit has transformed the car and replaced the 13yr old OE suspension that had sagged 1.5".

The car now has a tendency to wander alot, particulary out on the country highways and this can get tiring when travelling some distance at 100-110kph. It does sometimes wander on the smoother freeways too.

Had the alignment checked and the castor is out by just under 2degrees, therefore if I were to fit some 2deg castor bushes  would this solve the wandering :?: :?: :?:

indeed it will, you are suppose to get castor done with a 2", but its not nessacery

the only problem we have found with the aftermarket bushes (the hard plastiuc type, forget the name) seem to flog out pretty quick, if you do alot of km's and 4wding would maybe suggest stock toyota bushes and redrill the plates

Yes castor bushes should fix it up, but like john said most castor bushes are quite hard and will flog out quickly

OK it looks like I need to fix the castor (which I kind of knew but wanted it confirmed)

I checked my alignment results last night and they are:

Castor
Left -1deg49'
Right -2deg03'

Now the Standard data is +3deg35' /+-45'

Therefore my castor is way out!!!!! :x

Should I get 5deg castor plates to get it back to standard :?: :?:

as for the casotr, ive never heard of castor being out that much, i was assured a 3degrres would fix it

scott just informed me this morning that pedders now do a 2 1/2 degree castor bush in rubber which should work for your lift, have a talk to your local pedders dealer first though

When we fitted the lift kit, it gave 4-4.5" of lift over the old stock suspension but assumed that this had sagged as it was 13yr old......although I was very surprised by the castor being out that much (I know 3 other 80's with 3" lift that have not had any castor trouble) so I am now thinking that the kit may actually be a 4" lift!!

That aside I will be fitting castor plates this weekend and will report back if it solves the wandering

i think the early 80's around the 1990 before 1992 the 2" was actually a 3 inch i think
