Hardchrome round bar

Any one know where shocker manufacturers get their hardchrome round bar from in Australia?
I've tried the usual suppliers of chrome bar but the smallest diameter they sell is 12mm so I thought of shocker shafts which go as small as 10mm.
They have to get it from somewhere.
If I cant get some my only other option is to buy some 7/16" 4140 bar and get it linished and chromed (expensive) to the diameter I want:(10.97 - 11.00mm)
cheers, sudso

Air and Automation (Airmation) in Sydney may be worth a call, they make pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders and may have a source. Haven't delt there in a few years, but guys were always helpfull.
What about polished stainless instead of chrome? Whats it being used for?

A sliding pin through a short cylinder that connects and disconnects but not in a hydraulic or pneumatic application. Got to resist deformation/bending as well due to a slight bit of bending stress along its length.
Cant get the size I want in s/s either so I'll have to get 7/16" in 1045 or 4140 and get it linished and hardchromed to the finishished diameter I want which is 10.97-11.00mm
Cheers and thanks.

Could try Boston Centreless.
http://www.bostoncenterless.com/materials.htm
It's a US company but they'll ship to Australia and will grind to very close tolerances. I'm sure they'd have a suitable material or be able to get one.
I don't remember how much shipping is, but it could be cheaper than buying something, having it ground then plated.
Another place is Airport Metals - they have some pretty fancy materials. Would be worth a call (althought from memory, they're fairly expensive).

Last one I could recommend off hand is Atlas Specialty Metals. If the places you tried don't have it, they probably won't but could be worth a call. Not sure about 4140 but they do 10.973mm wire in most SS grades. I think they have a $500 minimum order unless you have an account.

Is it possible to redesign other parts to use a standard size shaft?

Unfortunately no.
That would be 100x more work and defeat the purpose.
cheers

Yeah I've tried them but they didn't have that size.

I pulled that size from their catalogue. It's that they don't have some things their catalogue mentions. I've noticed it a couple of times
