Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Anyone know or can quickly get access to their cars to measure the inside diameter of their front chassis cross member for a tube to sleeve it?

Am putting on bigger tyres and need to cut off the Front bar outriggers and at the same time want to sleeve the front crossmember and weld on two new outer mounting points for my ARB winch bar. The four bolts that hold the bar on at the chassis won't be strong enough so I'm thinking of building new mounts off the outside of the cross member near the body bracket just to reinforce it. it should clear the tyres with my rims hopefully.

I measured mine when I made my winchbar....
ID = 44mm OD = 48.75mm
its not a standard size so finding a pipe thats fits snug inside it won't be easy.
I still haven't found a pipe to reinforce mine so I made braces that are clamped to the chassis (behind steering box).

Make sure u put up pics. I have used those 4 middle ones for mine for a while but not with a winch in it.

I beleive 32nb is the perfect fit for it.

just spoke to local steel supply company and they said that they have pipe 32nb of 42mm outside diameter which would easily sleeve into the crossmember but is 1 mm all round going to be too much clearance even if its welded in?

want33s, your bracing idea looks good. did you use u bolts in the bracing or did you drill through the chassis?

*Crossmember reinforcing pipe has to be snug to be of advantage..........
* I DID NOT drill the chassis. i used 50 x 8mm flat bar for the brace with a piece of 75 x 8mm welded to the end. this piece has two holes spaced 115mm apart. I went to local trailer builder and bought two 100 x 75mm square U-bolts, these are clamped to chassis.See pic.

Mine needed a 4 pound hammer to get it home in the cross member that's how well it fit....
I'll measue it later and post up the result....

I used 32nb for mine and had to belt it in with a sledge hammer also, I did the same on my old SWB aswell. I think you will find that the seams in the tube combined with the origonal welds cause it to be tight, on the LWB one side had been knocked slightly out of round and i had to warm it with the oxy to get the new tube through.

I'm well on the way to setting up the bar for some solid winching. the problem I and prob every other zook owner faces is that at some stage we are having to winch out the big patrols and other heavy 4bys which I have done on my original mounts but didn't want to do it.
