Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I can't find the the thread were this was on not long ago.I did a bit off a test to see how much difference there is in driving style .normally get 16l to 17l per 100kays that's booting it when a hill comes and pulling the trailer is closer to 20l.So I drove it as best as I could no black smoke when driving up the hill maintaining same throttle position slowing down and letting the box do the downshifting it went to 14l. I was very surprised I was wasting so much fuel and it only took me between 1 and 2 minutes longer to get to work.

thats all well and good, but what are you driving??

All other things being equal, cruise control would surely help a lot but only on the level. Having recently forked out $700.00 on one for a 5 year old Prado, I wonder in how many Klicks it will pay for itself.

I've recently tootled 1000 km at 2000 RPM / 88 K/hr indicated (85 K/hr actual) and got 9.24 L/100 - minimum payload - 3 Litre TDI.

Call me in 5 years for more comprehensive test results.

However when you see a decent incline or a f**k off hill, cruise control will bury the throttle to keep you at the same speed over the hill, it will contine to bury the throttle as you are about to crest, and then slowly come off again. Thus killing any economy gains on the flat surface.

But as said, driving style is the key... I'd rather use more fuel and get there sooner, others are the opposite...

the hand throttle makes for a better cruise control imho, coz wen ya do get to a hill ya can just put ya foot down to getup it, then wen u back off the hand throttle is still on so no need to set it again

that and its great just to stick it at 1000 revs and leave it there wen 4WDing and ya never have to touch the accel again

The graph curve is exponential. Sydney - Perth in 1 second would cost Bill Gates' total worth.

What is the difference Sydney to Perth at 90 and 120 Kph in fuel useage?

How would the saving at the slower speed be compared with the national hourly wage for the extra time spent in the driver's seat?

Mine doesnt, I hit a big hill and it cuts out.

If coming up to a hill, with my cruise control, I can put my foot down, and when I take my foot off, it resumes where it was at before I touched it anyways.

I love it when you have to brake... and the hand throttle is still pushing your car forward.... yep Mmmm Not the safest way
