GQ Air box problem 4.2L efi Petrol/gas

GQ 4.2L Petrol EFI engine on gas.

I am having a bit of a problem in that the airbox on the GQ is buggered. It needs a new one top and bottom, and we cannot track down a second-hand one for love nor money. I'm not paying $580 for a genuine one neither.

I have been told that possibly a VL commodore one may fit, but a Nissan Pulsar N13 or Skyline one might even be better. Has anyone else come across and fixed this problem? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as the zippi-ties aren't gonna last forever.......

How about a GU airbox, doesn't matter which model, and just fit some 3" tube between it and the gas mixer. They bolt straight in behind the LH headlight and the last one cost me $165.

Do you know if they flow more than the standard EFI box? is the pip diameter bigger or the same?
Looks like a good idea to me.

I don't know if they flow more that the EFI box, but the inlet is 3.5" and the outlet is 3". We just cut off the flange and mounted the intake hose straight over the remaining pipe.

PM'ed - I think I have the top one hanging around at home. I'll need to check if I didn't throw it out.
