A mate is looking at a new 3.0TD Prado VX or Grande as a work-provided car.
He can modify it if he wants, and he'll be trading from an '02 100 series solid axle petrol/LPG (2002 FZJ105, nrealy the same as mine).
He's curious about a few things on the 120 Prados though, so I thought I'd ask:
1. From the searches we've done, the IFS is strong enough to lift slightly and put larger/heavier duty tyres on, but by how much in each?
and the Grande adds:Suspension
Front - Independent double wishbone with coil springs, gas hydraulic dampers and stabiliser bar.
Rear - Live axle, five link with coil springs (Pneumatic for Grande), gas hydraulic dampers and stabiliser bar.
See model features for suspension enhancements
2. What the heck is TEMS and what's it going to be good for?Driver Assist Technology
Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension (TEMS)
Rear Height Control Air Suspension
It's got all the electronic traction control etc that seems to work pretty well for most things.
3. Is there a specific suspension kit anyone has personally used on a IFS 120 series Prado?
4. Will the suspension with all the Toyota elec-trickery be able to be upgraded with stronger/heavier duty and lifted coil springs without breaking anything? (CV's will wear out faster, but we don't want to break anything)
5. Will the height control etc work with upgraded springs?
6. I can't find any rear-protection bars for a 120 Prado - anyone got one or know where a good one can be obtained, along with any pictures?
Thanks!
