I have just got a 2" lift on my GQ 2.8 and now the standard size tyres which are 31/10.5 MTRs look like little bicycle tyres. I am in two minds whether to go to 33s in terms of will it put too much strain on uni joints etc. Can anyone who has got or done 33s on a 2.8 advise what the ride is like after the bigger tyres are put on?

I have a 99 GU2.8 with 33" muddies, and it seems to go fine. They are actually about 15-20mm (all the way around, so 30-40mm total) smaller in diametre then the coopers on a 16" rim that I pulled off it

I would be more worried about drop in power tryin to spin em rather than Uni's...

I'm not planning on towing anything. Is the drop in power with the move to 33/12.5s a big one?

depending on individual tastes, but for the one I drove when a mate borrowed my MTR's for a day to try it out, yes it was

I went from a metric 75x275R16 to a inpereal 33x12.5R15 and I noticed the difference in acceleration, It improved as the 33's were smaller than the factory 16" rim and tyre combo, only slightly but noticable

Cooper A/T 75x275R16

Goodyear Wrangler 33x12.5R15

my dads gu 2.8 is on 35's and its pretty gutless accelleration but it will still do 140k's all day, just turn up the boos a bit so it kicks in earlier and maybe tweek with the fuel pump abit,
one thing we did was take out the stock filter and wacked in a pod/ramflo filter in the casing and you wont believe how quick and easy it will revv out to 5500rpm and beyond too(stationary in neutral)

Unfortunately you already have the prized 4.6 diff gears that people in 4.2's chase, so your only option is transfercase gears, aftermarket 4.8's from snake/yuri/US/etc, or turbo/intake work...
