Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all, your my last hope with this, it has me stumped...

I have fitted a HID conversion kit to my isuzu trooper, no problem and the light is much improved.

However, the spotlight feed to the relay that controls the spotlights from the headlight, no longer works for an unknown reason. The old feed was taken about 3 inches back from the drivers side headlight and has never been a problem - until HID that is.

When i unplug the HID wiring harness and fit a standard halogen bulb, the spotlights relay works fine.

Have any of you guys any advice on where to take a spotlight feed on an HID headlamps?

I'll guess your spotlight relay coil is being earthed through your low beam filament.

When low beam is on, both sides of the coil are high, so the relay switches off. When you switch to high beam, the low beam line is pulled low through the filament and the coil switches on.

I'll also guess that your HID kit doesn't do the same. When you switch to high beam, there's nothing (i.e. no globe filament) to provide a path to earth for your relay coil, so no spotties.

IF I'm right, you need your relay coil across the two outside wires of the H4 globe socket. Do not connect anything to the middle wire of the socket.

Your exactly right the HID kit doesnt switch to another filament - instead it simply moves a cover inside the bulb to direct the beam of light to a hi position from lo, or vice versa.

I tried to take a feed from the now unused passenger side headlight plug, however when connected the feed seem to short out or earth the HID loom - when I flicked from hi beam to low the beams stayed on hi and the dash light stayed on.

However this was not across the two outside wires on the globe socket, just the one and then to earth. I will give that a try now!

i had the same prob when i installed hid headlights to my hilux, i think its the reversed earth as they say,

Absoloutely spot on Scott, eventually got round to wiring them up through the outside plugs of the globe socket this evening - sure enough, spotlights blazing away no problem at all.

Thanks very much for the advice, saved me a fortune in auto electrican bills!
