Looks like not too many responses eddie

Im in the procress of converting my BJ40 to airbag suspension. I was going for coil, but decided it would be far more versatile for ride height and load adjustment to go air bag.

I have put the hardpan rod in the rear end already which has improved the ride substantially, even with the leaf springs still in place.

I'll go for a 4 point link rear end, and 3 point front end.

i'm thinking of commercialising the concept, but like you, can find no other information on coil or air bag. Plent of mody on leaf sprunf forties.

Start here:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthre ... nsion+gods

yes there is lots of crap in that thread but there is also a shit load of good info.

you wont find any straight out info for converting your rig, ie step by step, each person has thier own prefs and ideas etc.

id be going a 3 link rear and a 5 link front with air bags

check out http://www.calbah.com/calbah.htm they do coil and airbag conversion on 40s etc

I did an 18" air bag conversion on my 40 series and it is pretty cool.

Originally we were goin to remove the leaf springs altogether and go the way you're heading, but Queensland Transport, who had originally OK our propsal before starting the work turned around and said it couldn't be done when we double checked at chopping time!

So I ended up using longer 60 series leaf springs, with only 3 leaves, and then relocating the soring hangers forward (on back) and backwards (on front). This way as the approving officier agvised, to airbags are classed as an accessory to the suspesion, as the leave setup looks stock even though they wouldn't have a hope in hell of holding up the vehicle. Currently I get 6" variance in height before the spring and shackle are at full droop, and there is still another 5" in the bag in heght! I intend on fitting two sets of the Superior shackles to alleviate this, and a traction bar to the rear. All bags are independantly crontrolled.

Height adjustable in Queensland is great - I can look near stock if needs be.

I rang calbah the other day first thing they said was "were not doing any suspension stuff atm ass we have got too many other things going on". fair enuff. then I asked about cost. Bloody hell! this bloke said I would be lookin at about 10K for coils on my cruiser or 15K for airbag's mind you that is for everything (coils/air bags,shocks,5 and 4 link, eng cert etc etc) and I will admit that if I had that much cash I could see myself doing it. but with my truck and my job...... well it is nice to dream.

FOR SALE

I can post photos of details as it sits now if you like it has 75 serries troopy rear springs with single track bar and diff sitting 4" back, standard front with reverse shackel diff sitting 2" forward .
