Whats the best steering dampener to get for my GQ?
Do i get a 4 way spring return (toughdog) or standered style (rancho)?
Mine is the one with the dampener from chassis to steering arm but i have the brackets there for a steering arm to Panhard rod setup.Which is best?
I have had a wheel balance but i am getting a wheel alignment and balance from another place tomorrow to stop my steering shake at 60km/h.

get the one that 4wd1 stocks. it a coil over steering dampener, costs $300 they look really cool, and are meant for big tyres like yours.

just buy a good quality normal one
rtc (coil over) steering dampners stuff ya steering box out and hide other problems that would be better fixed properly.
if you car is alligned correctly they are not needed and are total wank factor item that will just put too much preload on your steering box

x2 better off to buy a good quality noraml heavy duty dampner, I recommend EFS we run them on the comp truck, it has killed 1 RTC dampner and is yet to hurt the EFS one and I honestly doubt it will hurt it. Just my experience anyway.

X3 don't bother with a RTC damper, a heavy duty standard type damper will do a better job.

If they don't restrict and you have the mounts use both.
If only one Panhard to Arm

done 200k on ome 35mm bore steer damper ran for 3 years with 37" never had a problem, the RTC dampers have an exposed shaft that gets stone damage n surface rust n mud on it n chew the seals out
I'd recomend ome, efs or any big bore standard type damper

Wheel alignment done today:
Toe in was out a little bit
Wheel balance OUT MAJORLY
Will be investigating a steering dampener for the arm to panhard as it now has become VERY light when steering on the road, and the wobbling is not being absorbed properly.

fox yes they are $300 but they will last a lifetime. every component is cheap to replace and they work sweet as. I think return to centre are a shite idea period! you can change the shims, oil weight and gas pressure too.
Also NEVER mount them chassis to draglink. Mount drag to panhard unless you like bump steer. The 88/89 had chassis to drag and it is a stupid idea. perhaps if the drag and dampener are parallel its ok but as soon as there is any lift and therefore angle involved a percentage of the dampeners force (depending on angle and deflection speed) steers your truck!
Also a rtc just increases your load on the steering system for no reason. the wheel returning to centre is a castor issue and should be dealt with accordingly
