Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I've been told you can't do a body lift on a vehicle with safety airbags fitted is this because of a legal issue or because it's just not phsically possible due to the way the vehicle is set up.

Firstly stop YELLING at us!

There is no reason why you cant body lift a vehicle with air bags, Except to say that depending on the operating and actuating mechansims of the air bags you may either render them usless as they won't deploy unless you have an extremely serious impact or they may deploy in a minor impact when they normally wouldn't. Lastly there is the possibilty that it may have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the airbag operation. However you wont truly know until you stack it!
I would say though that a body lift would void any warranty you had on the airbag system.

OK - when I read the title, I thought he was asking about using airbags as the spacers in a body lift.

I'm just relieved he's not that stupid.

Using air bags for a body lift would be hopeless the cab would bounce all over the place !!!!

if you delibratly dissable your air bags by say pulling the fuse and you have an accident where someone is killed, where in the case had an airbag been deployed they would have survived. The insurance company can void you insurance and any hospital bills and other costs associated with the accident could be put onto you.... im sure other fines and penalties could be put onto the driver also

i dont know why anyone would knowingly dissable a safety item like an airbag, you usally only get one chance to use them. and there worth more still working than not working. next people will be removing their seat belt coz they dont like the creases they put in their shirts. if your tyres rub just trim them up a bit otherwise contact an engineer

Just so eveyone knows it's not my vehicle i don't have airbags and i already have a bodylift my brother is looking at buying a new dual cab (maybe Navara) and we're just trying to work out what mods we can do

You need to check what year model his rig is against the ADR that prohibits body lifts on SRS airbaged vehicles.

if its got airbags its not a real 4wd its a toorak tractor

It's not as stupid as it sounds. Many Trucks have their cabs mounted on Air Bags, they also have shock absorbers fitted aswell, although it is for added comfort. Unless of course it's a cab over Volvo, i am sure the design team set about trying to come up with the best way to get a truck driver sea sick.

Now talk to the DPI or whoever does the rego in your state and ask them. Also look at the regs on the dotars web site.

i would save the money on the body lift..go do a computer course learn typin and where keys are and buy a real 4wd. like a toyota or nissan

Can't do airbag shocks instead?

They can go up and down.

wouldn't it be better to just bodylift with spacers rather than airbags, and then uprate the suspension?

if you are talking about a body lift, i am certain it is ilegal to body lift a vehicle fitted with srs airbags.

if you are talking about airbag lift of body, i believe (could be wrong) that at least one point has to be a solid mount. personaly just use a solid lift.

or buy a good fourby to start with a cruiser
