Picked up this little beauty tonight.. 190k on the dial, shackles, towbar, rear seats, bullbar, extractors, recently redone springs and shocks. has new clutch not installed, and transfer S1 tranny gears in seperate box. no reg. just needs a 'new' starter motor..:D

Fingers crossed I am back on the road real soon, plans atm are to
swap the motors over, and either tinker with a stock(rebuild) or drop a 1.6 into one when funds allow..

Possibily stick the WT diffs under the NT chassis, and vice versa, and slowly build and add.. see what happens.. probably all a pipe dream atm but meh! :D yay i got twins!

Im Excited

I want baby zuks! i figure if i leave em long enough, SOMETHING has to happen! :D

Right now, both engines are out, the "new" zuki has a g13b, mine a g13A, cant phisically see any difference between the two, except for maybe some pollution gear and the sohc compared to the dohc..and cm3 size is obviously slightly decreased..
Will edit in some workshop pics, but as of today, "New" engine has been degreased, clutch and Rear main seal replaced, and new rad. hoses purchased. starter motor from the 13A is to go on the B, but as we all know.. one of the last things to go on beofre firing up the "new/OLD girl"

If all goes to plan, engine will be in tomorrow lunch time,, was a smooth removal, and quiet simple.. once everything was removed, out she poped.. except i forgot the bloody accelerator cable on the "new" zuki so that snapped. Doh!

^^ ok.. coz on the block its stampeded g13A.. 1324cm3 and the "new motor" is the stamped g13B 1298cm3. looks to have more polution gear...?? whats the easiest way to get around the P. gear? certain hoses etc i can block off??

All is going well.. as of last night, the 1298 is in and running.. although i think it needs a service, as idle seems high and I if i turn my headlights on.. the revs increase dramatically.. like a good 500-1000rpm.. really unsure why this is!!

otherwise no dramas! new clutch, new rear main, good clean, and in she went!

heres some pics of the progress...

Job Complete...Almost!:Image

So any one have any ideas about what would be the cause of the RPM increasing so dramatically with the lights being switched on!?? unfortunatly the wiring on both cars is different and was a little tricky to do an exact swap but the necesarry plugs and earths are all on as far as I can tell!!
Thanks in advance for the help guys!

nice work man dosent make it look like a huge job i thuahgt it would be.

lol, nah man! tis a easy job, iv done engine swaps before.. this one is simple compared to the hilux.. that was a right Biatch! the zuki only has 6-8 bolts/nuts holding the engine to the gearbox, and would happily do it again now its done the once! (fingers crossed i dont have to for a while though)

Should be able to swap the gear off the old motor directly onto the new one.

ie all carb and polution gear.

yeh i probably COULD swap it all off but that is going to require more effort, and more tinkering when all i need right now is for it to get me to work lol. mainly concerned about the increase in RPM with the lights being swithced on... certainly has me buggered!!

there is a screw on the carb that sets the idle up.

my drover went up to nearly 2500rpm when anything electric was turned on.

by foolsp33d
yep have played with that screw! but its actually ideling ok just when the lights are turned on(even parkers) everything goes up in RPM, and not a normal up.. like a serious jump in the revs!!

edit: How can a screw on the carby, in effect change the idle speed when electrical current is involved!??

Posted: Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:17 pm
by bigzuk
its not the idle screw.

there is another one on there thats for the idle up. which cuts in when it senses electrics turning on. its on the front side of the carb closer to the top. where as the idle is in a stupid spot down the bottom. well thats where they are on the drover. it may be different on newer engines.

hey mate, nice going buy the way...

Your rpm increase is because when your electricals are switched on (ie. lights) the charge in the battery cannot maintain it at idle so just like a governer (that screw on the carby) when underload it increases the rpm. to maintain a even charge or powersorce. now it should only buump it up to about 250 to 400 more so maybe what is happeneing here is your alternator is not in to good shape and it needs the extra revs to give it a bit more chharge. just a therory. as it has happend to me and the alt was the prob... ok well i THINK iv sorted out the idle dramas.. just rus rough as.. been looking through the bible and notice the idle jets get a worthy mention of this.. possibly an if not the issue.. unfortunatly dont have acsess to a compressor.. and the neighbours keep whinging at me about my 'tuning' efforts..(bloody neighbours!) so what i am going to ask is If there is any members local to the etham/doncaster area who have acsess to a timing light, air compressor and zuki knowledge would they mind giving me a chop out for an hour or two over the weekend!? the car is drivable, just runs rough, let me know and there is a 6 pack in it for the efforts! more if required!

Thanks for all the input guys! muchly appreciated!!
Simo. The PM you sent me.. for sure mate! sounds like a plan!! keep me in the loop and let remind me closer to the date!! :D

Idle when electrical load is applies is adjusted by a cavum pot on the fron the of the carby, to allow for increased load on motor from alternator. Get a mate to switch on lights etc whilst you look at front of carby and you will get it. Just adjust this lever and you are sweet. Should be about 750 unloaded and 900 loaded (rpm)

Layto....

yep worked that one out.. cant get it to idle or want to idle after adjustments, unless its set higher than 1k rpm.. n then idle up senor dont do jack as its already set to high to register.. Has me stuffed, tried cleanin the carby, tried, the hand over intake, checked choke, checked timing, check leads n plugs, has me stumped:( guess it will come down to a trip to a mechanics n get arse raped:( unless there is interest in someone meeting up and having a tinker!??
