is there a way to use the centre diff lock (cdl) switch on the dash to engage and disengage the cdl when in low rage?

i want to be able to use lowrange on the road with out getting wind up.

Just in case the Lcool site goes down and someone is looking for this info i have Cut and Pasted it here-

To Stop Centre Diff Lock being engaged automatically when low range is selected

Toyota deemed that the centre diff would be locked automatically when low range was selected in it's constant 4X4 80 Series. There are many situations when this is in fact not desirable. One situation that comes to mind is when low range needs to be engaged on a hard surface for example getting a heavy towed load moving on a hill or backing a boat up a driveway. In these situations if the centre diff is locked transmission line wind up can occur resulting in considerable strain on running components.

A plug located on the rear of the transfer, in about the 1 o'clock position looking towards the front of the vehicle needs to be unplugged. It unplugs in the horizontal plane and has a yellow and blue/black wire attached. Once unplugged just wrap the ends in some insulation tape to stop dirt getting into the exposed connections.

Locking the centre diff is now controlled manually, in both high and low range, by the switch on the dash; a far more flexible and sensible situation.

Just to add to the advantage of this mod it will also improve fuel economy in Low Range when just driving on low traction surfaces that you dont nessisarily need the CDL in as your not loosing traction. With the CDL in fuel consumption is increased due to drive train wind up every time you turn a corner.

Those of you with autos...there is another better way...it is more involved, but works just thesame....it is called the pin 7 mod, and takes away the command to lock the centre diff without taking away the command for the auto to shift as if it were in low. In other words, if you do the plug mod to an auto, the auto will shift as if it is in high range, when it is in low...and in low, first gear is held till 4000 rpm, but in high it is changed at 2000.
Whats involved is finding the computer in the footwell behind the plastic and cutting the pin 7 wire.

This mod can be found on www.ih8mud.com in the 80 series tech section, in the states they only got autos....
